An Express from the Lord to Me

"Through your obiedience and continuing faith in Jesus Christ and your understanding of the whole plan of happiness, even if important parts of it aren't fulfilled in your life now, they will be yours in the Lord's due time. I also promise you that you can have significant growth and happiness now in your present circumstances. As a daughter or son of God, live whatever portion of the plan you can to the best of your ability."

Happy Birthday to ME!

So, I turned 21 yesterday, and I was expecting the same ol' same ol' go out to dinner type of a thing, with a quiet evening at home. Boy was I mistaken! Kirby had a huge date planned out, which was a culmination of several of his favorite dates so far...

First off, we went to Fat Cats where we engaged in a raucous game of air hockey. Last time we played, he beat me three games to two, and he, naturally, wanted to give me a chance to redeem myself. :)

I failed MISERABLY. I Lost three games straight. The first two were pretty close, but the last one he beat me 7-1, I think. So sad. Then we played a game of foosball, which I failed miserably at again. I don't know what was going on, but my game was definitely absent last night! :) Despite my miserable attempt to redeem myself, the rest of the night was quite delightful!

We headed to Ruby River Steakhouse next, where I ordered the hot wings appetizer, and Kirby ordered the sampler appetizer. Yup. Those were our meals. :) Faster, cheaper, and just as filling! And did I mention delicious? I have to admit, though, those wings were either hotter than usual, or my spice tolerance is diminishing. They just about killed me! We also both got a Ruby River Reo, which is an oreo malt. I think the Reo was my favorite part of the meal. It was here that I got my first "I Love You Gift." Kirby and I agreed that our new computers would be our birthday presents, but he had a couple things he still wanted to get me, so he put them in the "I love you gift" category. My first gift was a Borders gift card. :) Excitedly I talked about some of the books on my list of books to buy, and Kirby just smiled.

We dropped off our leftovers at home, and stopped by 7/11 to get some ice (I had no idea why at the time) and then hit the road again. Partly for a psyche-out and partly to burn time, Kirby drove in the wrong direction. I was trying to figure out what date was in the direction he was driving and I had no idea. At all. It turns out we were going to Mark and Amy Curtis' apartment, where we played a vigorous game of Starcraft! :) In order to do this, Kirby had to pack up my iMac, without me realizing it. I wasn't allowed to go in the office for the last 1/2 hour before we took off on our date. And I had to close my eyes as Kirby made a trip to the car with various items for our date. We won. That super advanced Protoss force never had a chance! :) I got my second "I Love You Gift" here. It was The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews Edwards. If any of y'all haven't read it, then you are missing out! This is one of my childhood favorites, and ironically it was one of my the favorite books I was telling Kirby about at dinner! No wonder he was smiling! Mark and Amy also gave me some Bath & Body foam soap stuff. SO FUN. It's basically my favorite kind of hand soap. EVER.

The next portion of our evening didn't have anything to do with a previous date. Andrew Hicks has three cats, and one of them had her kittens! ON MY BIRTHDAY! How cool is that? So of course we had to go and visit them. And since Katja (Andrew's mom) is basically the mother of Rocket (the mother cat), we were able to hold the three-hour-old kittens as long as she was the last one to touch them. They were so teeny and so cute! :) I love kittens. (Except for the fact that they can't control their claws. That wasn't really a problem yet. but it will be...

The next event was a combo of two dates--our first kiss, and the time we were watching Mission Impossible 3 at the park and the sprinklers came on. :) This time, though, we took the necessary precautions to prevent the sprinkler attack, as exciting as that would have been. So we went to my parent's backyard where we set up a million blankets (it was a chilly night), the laptop, and Kirby brought out the cooler full of Henry Weinhard's rootbeer and orange cream soda. He also got me a bag of mini reeses and a box of Junior mints as the final installation of the "I love you gifts." We watched Dan in Real Life which was fun, and then we looked at the stars a while before packing up and heading home. :) So much fun!

What a fantastic day! The only part that is less than desirable is the fact that I now feel a ridiculous amount of pressure to do something as awesome for his birthday on Wednesday! Ah! What to do!? Any suggestions???

Little Brother Prodige Update

So my brother had another meet that I wasn't able to go to, and apparently he placed 7th in long jump (this was a huge invitational, by the way, so that's a big deal!) and he won first for the 110 hurdles! AMAZING! He is currently ranked 2nd in 110 hurdles in state, as well as tied for 3rd in state for high jump at 6'! Yeah. He's amazing. Just thought I'd throw all this in there.

The Coolest 15-year-old, 6'4" Younger Brother Ever

So, my brother is awesome. He's a sophomore in High School, and participates in OHS Track. He does the 110 Hurdles, and the 300 (or 330?) hurdles, and he does high jump too, and I'm sure other stuff I'm not sure about. But that's beside the point. The point is, that he is 6th in state at high jump as a sophomore. He has cleared 6 feet once before. He's something like 14th in state on the 110. But anyhoo!! HOW COOL! MY BROTHER IS PRACTICALLY FAMOUS! And here are some pictures to prove just how awesome he is...

Technical Difficulties

BIG TIME. Hopefully I can get my original blog addresses back, but we'll see. My for fun blog isn't as important, but I would really like my photography blog to be back to it's original address. It is printed on all my business cards, after all. Anyways! I'm out.
